Butterfactory Open weekend Newstead

It seems everyone’s moving to the country.  To celebrate my recent permanent relocation to central Victoria, along with furniture maker and landscaper Greg Hatton, Greg is opening his studio workshop, the Newstead Butter Factory, on the first weekend of December.
We would love you to come out to Newstead and not only do you get the chance to meet us both, but you can have a sticky beak around this fantastic old butter factory and check out our latest creations.

Greg’s hand made furniture pieces are generally made to order although there will be plenty to see and buy on the day.  I have just released a new range of beautiful melamine plates and along with my signature quilts and cushions you never know you may even cross someone’s name off your Christmas list!
To check out our work and make enquiries go to

There will be tea and decent coffee available and kiwi scones…apparently they’re better than ours? Local bullboar snags on the barbie and Sean McMahons Western Union playing at 2pm Sunday

one week on....

this is my day today, one week out from closing the shop and it's all about preparing for the heat of summer ahead! I fixed flyscreen to a new door for the front of the house, fixed the broken flyscreen on the kitchen door (the blow flies are driving me nuts!!) and cleaned the filters on the air conditioner. all between preparing invoices ready for the arrival of my new artist plates this week.....

here are some random castlemaine shots

au revoir brunswick street

After a mammoth pack and move out of the shop on Monday, the truck then went via my house and collected my home contents before heading on up to Castlemaine. 3 days later I am still unpacking and squeezing far too much into a 2 bedroom miners cottage!!!
The closing of the shop was celebrated on Saturday night with lots of champagne, and lots of fun.
thanks again all who have been a part of the last 12 years of douglas & hope, I look forward to the change and keep posted to the online store, as product is being added slowly.

Stabs at Backwoods Gallery

Last Friday night was the opening of the Stabs exhibition at Backwoods Gallery,
anyone who has lived in inner city Melbourne in the last few years would have seen his work. I have seen it around here in Fitzroy for years, and I LOVE it.....

ballerinas

our lovely new ballerina cup and plate have arrived today.... and in the shop already,
I was terrible at ballet, more of a jazz ballet girl, but all I wanted was point shoes and a tutu.... it never happened!
